Giving Back to Create Scholarships
SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE ALREADY BEEN AWARDED!
The Phi Sigma Kappa Endowed Scholarship Fund raises tax-deductible* funds for scholarships awarded to active members of the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa.
Why should you contribute to The Phi Sigma Kappa Endowed Scholarship Fund?
Well, if you are going to make a tax-deductible* contribution this year, why not join with Eta Brothers from many different decades, all of whom have aided in the effort to create scholarship opportunities for the active members of the Eta Chapter by contributing to The Phi Sigma Kappa Endowed Scholarship Fund.
The Phi Sigma Kappa Endowed Scholarship Fund assists only undergraduate members of the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa at the University of Maryland. The fund has no connection to our International Headquarters, the Grand Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa, or the Phi Sigma Kappa Foundation.
The fund was established by the Eta Alumni Association and the Eta Housing Corporation, in cooperation with the University of Maryland College Park Foundation. The fund is monitored by the Eta Alumni Association and the Eta Housing Corporation, just like “Six Columns: The Capital Campaign to Benefit the Eta Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa.” The Division of Student Affairs Development Staff at the University of Maryland collects and evaluates essays, written by the undergraduate members of Phi Sigma Kappa who seek to earn scholarship awards from this fund. The Eta Alumni Association and the Eta Housing Corporation determines the “theme” for the essays, and reviews and approves the evaluation of the essays performed by the Division of Student Affairs Development Staff at the University of Maryland.
We began the distribution of scholarship funds in 2019. Our initial goal was to raise the funds needed to create an endowment so that scholarship fund award distributions do not affect the fund balance. In 2021, we met this goal by raising over $50,000 – and becoming only the second “Endowment” scholarship fund in the Greek community (and the fund with the largest endowment) at the University of Maryland. Now, and hereafter, additional funds that are contributed to the Phi Sigma Kappa Scholarship Fund will result in tremendous things. The greater the amount of the endowment, the greater the face value of, or the number of, scholarships that we can distribute each year.
Thank you for considering a donation to the Phi Sigma Kappa Endowed Scholarship Fund. The members of the Executive Committee, past and present, of the Eta Alumni Association of Phi Sigma Kappa and the Officers of the Eta Housing Corporation of Phi Sigma Kappa are thrilled to have established this fund – and your support is both a blessing and an inspiration to us all.
